Recently the president of Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (TISCO) issued mentioned that the total crude steel capacity in China declined from 2009-2013 and 2014-2018 with a decrease of 22.6% and 6.4% respectively.
However, stainless steel still had overcapacity and low production utilization problem. With new planning capacity put into production, the problem of low utilization and overcapacity will be more serious in the future.
Although the exports of stainless steel in China were basically stable, the figure declined significantly from the third quarter this year due to global trade war.
The exports in the second quarter was around 1.14 million tons, those in the third quarter were around 960,000 tons, totaling 3.9 million tons in the entire year of 2018.
Besides, the imports increased significantly in China this year, which were estimated at 1.95 million tons. The net exports of stainless steel were predicted to decline by 29% compared with the same period last year.
