Tata Steel Nederland to acquire Vattenfall power plants to support green steeltrans-Pipe Exhibition-Tube Exhibition-The 26th China (Guangzhou) International Tube & Pipe Processing Equipment Exhibition

Tata Steel Nederland has taken a major step toward its long-term decarbonisation strategy by signing adefinitive agreement to acquire three Vattenfall power plants in the lJmond region of the Netherlands. Theassets, which currently run on residual steelmaking gases, will be transferred to Tata Steel Nederland onJanuary 1,2026.
Although financial detalls of the agreement have not been disclosed, the transfer has received full approval fromrelevant authorities, including the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM).
A strategic acquisition to support low-carbon steelproduction
Tata Steel Nederland CEO Hans van den Bergdescribed the ownership transfer as a significant step inthe company''s green steel roadmap. Direct ownership ofthe power units will allow the company to orchestrate acontrolled shift from traditional steelmaking to cleanerproduction pathways.
The Vattenfall power plants in the lJmond region consistof three units. Power plants 24 and 25 in Velsen-Noordgenerate electricity primarily from residual gases produced during steelmaking, and this electricity is used byTate Steel Nederland in its operations. The third unit, ljmond 01, is a combined heat and power plant located onthe Tata Steel site in lJmuiden. lt is also fueled by steel production gases and produces both electricity andsteam, which are used in the steelmaker''s processes.
