Esmech Equipment Pvt, part of the SMS Group, successfully put into operation a two-stand cold rolling mill at a steel plant in Vietnam owned by the Hoa Sen Group, a leading Vietnamese cold strip producer.
The steelmaker’s new compact cold mill (CCM) was commissioned after a project duration of 13 months.
Since the equipment has been up and running, Hoa Sen Group has been using it continuously and now plan to increase the rolling speed and ramp up the mill to maximum speed. It has a nominal capacity of 400kt/yr.
“The new CCM is equipped with CVC plus and other quality-critical components made by SMS Group in Germany,” said SMS Group. It was supplied with X-Pact electrical and automation systems.
“The rolling technology and the automation system implemented ensure the CCM can adapt very flexibly to changes in the rolling process and achieve the required product quality,” the company explained, adding that fluid-related equipment was included in the scope of supply.
Hoa Sen Group’s CCM can produce carbon steel strip in widths of up to 1,250mm and thicknesses down to 0.11mm. It is designed for maximum rolling speeds of 1,400 metres/minute.
According to SMS Group, Esmech Equipment Pvt is already preparing the supply of a second CCM to the plant
